“Since victims of ransomware simply need to believe that the targeted material is valuable enough to them to warrant paying a ransom to recover it, ransomware has democratised data theft. Despite greater investments in defensive protection systems, this ransomware model has been successful. Secure backup, in the opinion of Veeam, is your final line of security against ransomware. Our software-defined methodology avoids hardware lock-in and integrates with your current infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud. So that you never have to pay a pricey ransom, Veeam is committed to assisting you in minimising downtime and data loss.”
Recover the Data or Pay the Ransom
The Veeam 2022 Ransomware Trends Report states that 52% of businesses paid the ransom and were able to get their data back. However, one in four businesses that created the ransomware claimed they were still unable to recover the destroyed data. 19% of businesses never paid the ransom and were still able to recover their data, while 24% did not receive any data back after doing so. Veeam wants to increase that 19% to a significantly higher proportion of the firms that were attacked. With the help of Veeam’s data protection services, businesses may avoid making ransom payments and proceed directly to data recovery, allowing them to recover unharmed from these attacks.
Attackers target backup repositories 94% of the time, and cutting off an organization’s lifeline for recovery increases the risk that it will be forced to pay the extortion. The data protection structure must have at least one immutable or air-gapped tier to prevent this situation, which was the case for 95% of those polled. In most corporations’ disc, cloud, and tape strategies, there is some immutability or air-gap medium.
