Richelieu Dennis on Creating Wealth

Richelieu Dennis grew up in Liberia and Sierra Leone. He grew up experiencing first-hand strong business women. His grandmother used generations-old skin and hair care recipes to successfully support herself and her family.

As a young man, Dennis emigrated to America to escape massive civil unrest at home and attend university. He received a scholarship to Babson College, a private business school in Wellesley, Massachusetts, which focused on entrepreneurship education. His mother sent her son shea butter products from her home in Liberia. Richelieu Denni will resell them to his classmates.

Although widespread in Liberian society, there was a gap in the American market for shea butter products as beauty ideals differed. Dennis never intended to start a business, only to offer high quality sun care products while he was in school. He originally wanted to return to Liberia to pursue a career in citrus farming, selling oranges, pineapples and grapefruits, but plans changed while studying at Babson. Mary attended her son’s graduation, narrowly escaping the ground fighting that had now entered the town where Mary lived.
